First two weeks - Standard Five: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

Before class had ever started, I thought it would be difficult and confusing to me due to my lack of technological skills. For the most part, I was correct in my initial assumptions. I seem to understand the Discussion Forums, but that is basically it. I am not a fan of networking sites. I do not engage in Facebook or any other type of social media. So the Diigo site setup is very unfamiliar to me. I am not completely sure if I have set it up correctly or not. I am however, comfortable with the My Education Kit as I have used this type of site before. That being said, I have been able to adapt to new things my whole life. I do not expect this class to be any different. I am here to better myself and learn all that I can.

In the past two weeks I have learned how important it is to understand that all students will learn at a different pace. I have also realized how important it is for me to not only maintain my skills, but to always be seeking new knowledge. By doing this, not only will I be improving my skill set and understanding, but it will also enhance my teaching capabilities in the future. My ability to adapt to the ever changing technological advancements in the area of education will be an asset for any path I choose. I was very interested in the concept of COPE. I understand the value that this brings to the field of teaching. Lastly, I have realized that positive reinforcement is a tool that I myself will use when I begin my teaching career.
I believe there is no better way to convey learning than through this style of teaching.

After six weeks in this class I have gained valuable knowledge on how to use bookmarking in such a way to improve my curriculum. I have also realized the benefits of creating a concept map to organize my ideas in an effective way. I was very intrigued about all the various types of technology that is being created in order to help diverse learning. The only real problem I feel that I have had in the last few weeks is an issue I had with creating the PDF file for my concept map. Overall, I think that the last two weeks have been productive for me.

In the past two weeks I have become more familiar with various types of computer software as well as many different types of beneficial handheld technologies for use in the classroom. I think that the voice control technology would serve me well when I become a High School History teacher. Although I was already familiar with using Word documents, it
was interesting to see some of the different uses that I can incorporate into my teaching. I thought week #8`s assignments would be extremely difficult for me, but after doing them, I realized that they were not that hard after all. Karla`s instructions were very detailed and helpful. Overall, I feel comfortable with where I am at in the class.

I feel like I have obtained as well as reinforced many valuable resources over the last two weeks. In previous classes I have learned a minimal amount about Excel and Publisher and it is finally nice to see how I am going to be able to incorporate these programs into my chosen profession. Also, after learning more about Kidspiration, I think this will serve me well when I begin teaching. The thought of being able to use all these programs to benefit my organization in the classroom is very reassuring. I am also extremely excited about getting started on my classroom website and can not wait to see how it turns out when I am finished.

The last two weeks have been very interesting and informing for me. I have learned how beneficial and productive classroom websites can be to a teacher. When I first realized that I would be creating a classroom website I was a little nervous about whether or not I could do it. However, after reading the templates and reading the instructions on how to set it up, creating my own site was really enjoyable and fun. It also made me realize just how useful it will actually be to my future students. I also feel that I have learned how helpful productivity software is and how much time it will save me in my own classroom. I feel that I have a better understanding of how powerpoints can be used in a variety of ways to increase the value of instructional content. Overall, I feel like I have had a very productive two weeks!

The last few weeks have really pointed out the difference that technology has on the classroom learning enviornment and the students' ability to not only keep pace with their fellow students, but also to gain an advantage when talking about the digital divide. I have picked up some key ideas on how to approach the dilemma of making sure that every student in my classroom has an equal opportunity to learn. I feel as if I have a solid grasp on how to make my lessons more effective through the use of powerpoint presentations. I also have learned the advantages of the various types of Audiovisual technologies that are available for today's classroom. I am very excited about finishing my Portfolio because I am eager to see the finished product.
